Restoring Sanity

Finally, 34 members of the GOP pitched in to help our country move forward - at long last helping Democrats put the good of the people and communities they serve first. We are grateful to each of them. It takes courage – ask us we're getting to be experts – to stand firm in demanding that American tax dollars be reinvested in American projects and programs that make our country safer and stronger. It is my hope that this is a first step in untangling Congress.

CNN Poll: Iraq war opposition at all-time high.

From MoveOn

President Bush has asked for another $50 billion in "emergency" funds for the war in Iraq . Congress will vote on this any day so it's a critical time to make sure our voices are heard. Can you call Sen. Byrd and tell him "not another cent for Iraq unless it's attached to a timeline for withdrawal"?

From Working Families
Nurses at Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) hospitals are on strike, seeking stronger patient care protections. They've gone without paychecks since Oct. 1.

But last Friday, the AFL-CIO delivered $10,000 worth of groceries to the nurses in Hazard, KY

“It comes at a good time because this is a month into the strike, so you know, our cupboards are starting to get a little bare,” one nurse said. As Thanksgiving approaches, donations from activists like you will ensure these members of the United American Nurses can continue to feed their families.

From Working Families
On Nov. 28, the Republican presidential candidates will take part in CNN's second YouTube debate, when the American people can pose their questions on video directly to the candidates. But we want to give you a chance to make your own video questions about issues important to working families. What would you ask the Republican candidates if you had a chance?

More from MoveOn

Here's the deal: An obscure provision called the "alternative minimum tax" is going to end up raising taxes for tens of millions of middle-class households —maybe even yours—unless Congress acts quickly.

Democrats want to cancel this tax increase for the middle class—and pay for the shortfall by closing a massive new loophole that's allowing the richest investors on Wall Street to pay lower tax rates than you or I do. 2 (Want to see how much more you pay in taxes than you would if you paid the same rate as Wall Street tycoons? Birth control prices are now 2, 3, and even 5 times higher at college campus health centers and clinics serving low-income women across the country, going from $10 to up to $53 a month because of the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005, passed by the old Republican Congress. Take action today: tell Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and all of Congress to restore affordable birth control for students and low income women!

For almost 20 years, pharmaceutical companies provided college health centers and many clinics servicing low income women with birth control at deeply discounted prices.  But this act, which went into effect in January 2007, has eliminated these discounts for campus and low-income health centers.

Join us now and urge Congress to restore affordable birth control for students and low-income women.
Congress members Joseph Crowley (D-NY), Nita Lowey (D-NY), and 103 co-sponsors have introduced the Prevention Through Affordable Access Act to restore affordable birth control prices for university-based and safety-net clinics.

Millions of women across the country are being affected by these devastating hikes in birth control prices.
