SiCKO This Weekend
LET'S HAVE THE BIGGEST MOVIE OPENING EVER
The sneak previews for SiCKO, the Michael Moore health policy change advocacy movie set box office RECORDS all around the country. Never before has the express purpose of a blockbuster movie been to institute real and specific policy change, and we all need to turn out to support this film as a DEMONSTRATION of your support for H.R. 676 , which would finally bring national health care to the United States .
WHERE CAN I SEE THE FILM?: http://www.sickotix.com/
This historic movie has the potential to generate literally MILLIONS of constituent messages through the action pages that Michael Moore is tying directly into the movie, so instead of selling hamburger stand drink cups with this one, we will be promoting real citizen policy advocacy.
SPONSOR A SiCKO SCREENING YOURSELF
Many of our participants will want to do more, much more, than just sit in a movie seat as a show of solidarity. Let's STAND UP for policy change with Michael Moore. There will be people collecting petition signatures in person and in force. Sponsor your own screening, help hand out flyers. All the info is at;

College Affordability In the last few weeks, the House and Senate education committees approved legislation to reform the student loan program as part of the budget reconciliation process and the Senate committee also approved a reauthorization of the Higher Education Act. These bills represent the biggest investment in higher education student aid and debt relief since the GI bill.
This legislation could mean thousands of dollars in additional grants for low and middle-income students and lower interest rates and better terms for student borrowers with mountains of debt.
Unfortunately private banks, led by lending giant Sallie Mae are lining up to try and kill higher education reform. They're trying to stop these bills because they cut some of the excessive federal subsidies paid to private banks.
We can't let real reform for millions of students lose because of the interests of a handful of well-connected big companies. In the wake of recent scandals involving student loan companies, it's time for Congress to hold lenders accountable and to stand up for students and access to higher education.
Congress needs to hear from students and their families that that they are facing real financial challenges paying for college The committees have indicated that the House and Senate will take up the legislation in July as early as the week of July 9th. Please take a minute to call your Representative and your Senators and urge them support higher education reform legislation. You can also take action on our website, CollegeAffordabilityNow.org. |
