Need Your Help Today
The DREMA Dems PAC wants to participate with the WVDLC in an automated phone call to all the registered Independents who have not yet voted to caution them to ask specifically for a Democratic Ballot before going into the voting booth.
As you know state law is putting the County Clerks into a unfortunate DON’T ASK – DON’T TELL position. So if the Independent voter does not specifically ask for a Democratic Ballot they won’t get one. They will wind up in the voting booth with a ballot that allows them to only weigh in on non-partisan issues.
We know thousands of people who have either changed their party affiliation or registered Independent for the express purpose of voting for Democrats. This election is too important for their votes not to be counted.
We need to raise $2,000 for the DREMA Dems PAC fund to help get the phone call out to 100,000 Independent voters. Like you, we want their votes to count. So please don’t think about this one. We need to raise $2,000 fast and we can’t do this without your check. So please, write your check today and mail it to:

Greenbrier County
Joan C. Browning has voted in every election since 1960 – yes, the “new” Georgia constitution of 1942 gave 18-year olds the right to vote. She registered to vote in Greenbrier County and has a “perfect attendance” record for always voting, always in the same precinct. In fact, she moved once – about 200 yards, from a rental house to the 12 acres upon which she has lived since 1978.
Joan ran for the House of Delegates in the May primary of 2006. At that time, the Greenbrier county clerk allowed voters rendered “inactive” because they do not get mail at their residence to vote “challenged” ballots on Election Day. On Election Day, the voter first learns that the clerk has rendered them “inactive.” Then at the vote canvass, those votes were not counted because, well, there is no way to prove where country folks live. It is Catch-22.
This spring, when Joan went to the county clerk’s office to request a replacement voter registration card, she learned that she had been moved to “inactive” voter status. Why? Seems the county verifies “residence address” by mailing address verification form through the USPS. Since Joan, like so many other folks living out in the country, does not receive mail at her residence but at the post office, the mail was returned undeliverable. Of course, the clerk’s office made no attempt to contact her or to verify her voting status. The clerk removed her from the active voter file. If she had not needed a replacement voter registration card, Joan’s vote would not have counted – even though she is a candidate for the House of Delegates.
If you do not receive your mail at your residence, please confirm your voter status with your county clerk before Election Day.
This election is especially important. The state will redraw House and Senate districts, as well as Congressional districts, after the 2010 census. Every vote should count, not merely those acceptable to county clerks.

FAME: Sen. Bob Menendez Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) introduced the "Stop Deceptive Advertising for Women’s Services Act," which would put a stop to the deceptive advertising practices of so-called "crisis pregnancy centers" (CPCs). CPCs have a long history of advertising under terms like "abortion services" when they provide nothing of the sort. Pro-choice Rep. Carolyn Mahoney (D-NY) introduced the House version earlier this session. Read More >>

Dear Friend of CMD,
Did you catch the PBS NewHour last Thursday? CMD's John Stauber debated former ABC reporter Bob Zelnick about the top secret "Pentagon military analysts program," exposed by David Barstow of the New York Times. It is an illegal propaganda campaign that embedded the Pentagon's disguised voice directly into network TV news.
