Virginia Mahan was first elected in 1996 to represent the 27th District of Raleigh, Summers, and Monroe Counties. She is currently the ranking female member of the House Judiciary Committee and was the first female Delegate ever appointed to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance.
She has been instrumental in passage of the WV Open Meetings law, the Pay Equity Act, tougher Domestic Violence Laws, bringing WV into compliance with the Clean Water Act, Establishing WV Child Advocacy Centers, WV’s Amber Alert Law, creating the first in the nation Child Abuse & Neglect Registry, creating the Children’s Special Victims Unit within the State Police.
Virginia Mahan is the 2003 winner of the WV Women’s Commission Guardian Angel Award and the 2006 Celebrate Women – Woman of the Year in Government Award.
